About the clinic

Many couples who are referred to hospital with fertility problems find that it can take many months to complete their investigations. Typically, they have to make several hospital visits, and in-patient admission for laparoscopy is often also required for the woman. As a an alternative, we have set up a ONE STOP FERTILITY CLINIC with the aim of completing all the important investigations at a single hospital out-patient visit.

Following referral, a screening questionnaire will be sent to you together with an information pamphlet. If judged to be suitable, you and your partner will be asked to have blood tests and semen analysis and you will receive an appointment for the clinic. At the clinic, a review of your history will be followed by:

1. Pelvic ultrasound scan to get a global view of your pelvis
2. Diagnostic hysteroscopy to assess the cavity of the womb, and
3. Culdoscopy to assess the pelvis for adhesions and endometriosis, and check for tubal blockage. Culdoscopy is a new investigation which is an alternative to laparoscopy and which is well tolerated under local anaesthesia. You can find further details of these procedures at this web site.

At the end of the investigations, we will review all the results with you and suggest if any treatment is indicated to help you conceive. You will also be give a printed summary of our findings and recommendations, a copy of which will be sent to your GP.
